The Department of Clinical Nutrition and Dietetics at SRM Medical College Hospital and Research Centre (SRMMCHRC), Kattankulathur, celebrated International Women’s Day on 9 March 2026 with enthusiasm and a strong sense of appreciation for the contributions of women in academics and professional life. The event brought together students, faculty members, PhD scholars, and laboratory assistants, creating a vibrant and inclusive atmosphere within the department.

A notable aspect of the celebration was that the programme was thoughtfully organised by the male students of the department as a gesture of respect and gratitude towards the women who contribute significantly to the academic environment.

The programme began with Tamil Thaai Vazhthu, setting a respectful tone for the gathering. This was followed by a welcome address by Mr. Vignesh K., a first-year postgraduate student, who highlighted the significance of International Women’s Day and emphasised the importance of recognising the strength, leadership, and achievements of women across academic and professional spaces.

The celebration featured a series of interactive activities designed to encourage participation across different groups within the department. Events such as Find the Word, Musical Ball, Balloon Blowing, Putting the Ball in the Basket, Balloon Burst, and Musical Chair created an energetic and engaging environment, promoting collaboration and camaraderie among students, faculty members, and staff.

One of the key highlights of the programme was the recognition of excellence within the department. The department’s Subject Coordinator was honoured for her dedication to teaching and her continued guidance to students. Additionally, four students from each class were felicitated as “Special Women of the Day,” acknowledging their achievements and the positive influence they bring to the academic community.

The event concluded with the distribution of prizes to the winners of the competitions, bringing the celebration to a close on a note of appreciation and shared joy.

The International Women’s Day celebration at the Department of Clinical Nutrition and Dietetics served not only as a commemorative event but also as a meaningful reminder of the vital role women play in shaping academic institutions through their leadership, commitment, and contributions.
