About Paediatric Surgery

Pediatric surgery is a super-specialty branch of medicine dealing with the surgical care of children. By international definition childhood includes unborn fetus from 7th month of pregnancy to adolescents up to 21 years of age. Pediatric surgeons typically care for birth defects, cosmetic problems in children, injuries, tumors (cancers) and inflammatory disorders of childhood. Pediatric surgeons operate upon all organs including brain, spinal cord, neck organs, mouth, lungs, food pipe, liver, gall bladder, pancreas, intestine, kidneys, urinary bladder, genital organs, limbs and skin.

The department believes in the philosophy of cost effective comprehensive care of all childhood surgical diseases under one roof. We offer advanced modalities of treatment such as pediatric laparoscopy, thoracoscopy, cystoscopy and bronchoscopy.

Department of pediatric surgery at SRM was formally inaugurated in March 2011. It was successively headed by Dr Ilango, Dr Saravanabavan and Dr Raveenthiran. Since 2017 the department is recognized by Medical Council of India for higher specialty training in pediatric surgery.
