SRM STRATUS Centre for Medical Simulation, SRM Medical College Hospital & Research Centre, SRM Institute of Science and Technology, organised an Alumni Talk on Human Factors in Trauma Care – Simulation-Based Learning on 1 August 2026 at the Hippocrates Auditorium. The session featured Dr. Nabil Abdul Raheem, Consultant in Emergency Medicine at Wexham Park Hospital, UK, and alumnus of the MBBS 2007 batch of SRM Medical College.
The programme brought together 253 participants, including final-year MBBS students, Clinical Resident Medical Interns (CRMIs), postgraduate students and faculty members. The event provided students with an opportunity to engage with an accomplished alumnus and gain practical insights into trauma care, teamwork and decision-making in high-pressure clinical environments.
The programme commenced with the Inaugural Dean’s Address by Dr. Jayanthi R, Dean (Medical), SRM MCH & RC, who welcomed Dr. Nabil Abdul Raheem and his wife, Dr. Ramya, also an alumna of the 2007 MBBS batch. Dr. Jayanthi presented the Alumni Certificate to Dr. Nabil.
Dr. K. Thamaraiselvi, Assistant Dean – Alumni, presented the SRM Alumni Memento to the guest speaker, while Dr. Rachula Daniel, Coordinator – Alumni, delivered the welcome address. The programme also featured felicitations by Dr. S. Sundarapandian, HOD, Anatomy; Dr. P. Vijayan, Associate Professor, Trauma Surgery; Dr. A. Saravanan, HOD, Physiology; and Dr. Hari Prasad, Assistant Professor, Emergency Medicine.
A key highlight of the programme was a realistic trauma simulation performed by MBBS student volunteers. The simulation was conducted by final-year students Kishan Pagadala, Varun Eshwar, Yeshasvi Santhosh, Koneru Trivikram Sai, Ujjith Kesamneni, Balagopal Nair, Dheeraj G, Vuppala Keerthika, Asif Shadab Malik and Sharon Mathew, along with third-year students Nathasha Noronha and Yash Vardhan Pansari.
Following the simulation, Dr. Nabil led an interactive debriefing session, helping students reflect on their clinical decisions, communication and team dynamics during trauma management.
In his alumni talk, Dr. Nabil focused on the critical role of human factors in trauma care, highlighting how individual performance, communication, teamwork, situational awareness and decision-making can influence outcomes in fast-paced and high-pressure trauma settings. He also elaborated on the importance of the xABCDE approach to trauma care, drawing from real-life clinical cases and encouraging active interaction with the audience.
The programme concluded with the distribution of certificates by Dr. Jayanthi R, Dean (Medical) to the student volunteers who participated in the trauma simulation. Feedback was also collected from the participants.
The event celebrated not only the importance of simulation-based learning in medical education but also the enduring relationship between SRM and its alumni. Dr. Nabil Abdul Raheem’s return to his alma mater served as an inspiring reminder of the impact SRM alumni continue to make in healthcare and society, while strengthening the lifelong bond between alumni and their institution.
