SRM Institute of Science and Technology (SRMIST) celebrated the birthday of its Founder Chancellor, Hon’ble Dr. T. R. Parivendhar, with Sevai Thirunal 2026, a special celebration centred on service, compassion, social responsibility and community engagement. The event was organised by Tamil Perayam at the Dr. T. P. Ganesan Auditorium, Kattankulathur.
As part of the Service Day initiative, SRMIST organised a series of community-oriented programmes to foster a spirit of service and social responsibility among students, faculty and the wider community. The initiatives included blood and eye donation drives, free medical camps, temple cleaning and service activities, tree plantation drives, student competitions followed by prize distribution, and the distribution of educational materials to underprivileged students.
A major highlight of Sevai Thirunal 2026 was the inauguration of the SRM Rehab Centre – Institute of Rehabilitation Medicine at SRM Medical College Hospital and Research Centre, Kattankulathur. The facility was inaugurated by Founder Chancellor Dr. T. R. Parivendhar in the presence of Dr. P. Sathyanarayanan, Pro-Chancellor (Academics), SRMIST.
The 70-bed facility is recognised as the second-largest comprehensive rehabilitation centre in Tamil Nadu. It provides specialised, multidisciplinary care for patients recovering from trauma and major injuries, stroke, head injuries, post-ICU conditions, speech and communication difficulties, mobility challenges and loss of functional independence.
The centre is designed to help patients restore function, dignity, confidence and independence, enabling them to return to their daily routines, workplaces, families and communities. Reflecting SRMIST’s patient-centred approach, the centre’s mission extends beyond helping patients survive to helping them regain the ability to live their lives to the fullest.
As part of the celebrations, Mrs. Easwari Ammal inaugurated a landmark hostel facility on the SRMIST campus. Spanning more than eight lakh square feet, the new facility strengthens the university’s residential infrastructure and provides students with modern, spacious and supportive campus amenities.
Another significant highlight of the event was the release of LEGACY, the Medical Faculty magazine. The publication was released by Mrs. Geetha Sivakumar and received by Mrs. Padmapriya Ravi and Mrs. Manimangai Sathyanarayanan.
LEGACY showcases the academic, professional and institutional contributions of the Medical Faculty, highlighting its achievements and continued commitment to excellence in education, healthcare and research.
Sevai Thirunal 2026 reaffirmed SRMIST’s commitment to nurturing a culture of service, compassion and social responsibility. The celebrations reflected the values and vision of Founder Chancellor Hon’ble Dr. T. R. Parivendhar and highlighted SRMIST’s continued efforts to create meaningful social impact through education, healthcare and community engagement.
