SRM Medical College Hospital and Research Centre, Kattankulathur, observed World Heart Day 2026 through a series of awareness and educational activities centred on the theme “Don’t Miss a Beat!” The initiative aimed to promote cardiovascular health awareness and equip students with essential life-saving skills.
As part of the programme, a hands-on training session on Basic Life Support (BLS) and First Aid was conducted for the first-year MBBS batch of 2026 at the SRM Stratus Centre for Medical Simulation. Using clinical simulators and resuscitation manikins, students gained practical experience in cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and standard first-aid procedures, reinforcing the importance of timely intervention during medical emergencies.
The main event was held on October 1, 2026, and featured a series of engaging academic and awareness activities coordinated by student emcees. The programme commenced with a formal welcome address, followed by the rendition of the Tamil Thai Vazhthu and an inaugural dance, marking the official opening of the event.
A key highlight was the Just a Minute (JAM) session, which featured short presentations on critical emergency topics, including Code Blue, CPR, anaphylaxis, and opioid poisoning. Through these presentations, students highlighted essential emergency response measures, first-aid interventions, and the importance of recognising and managing life-threatening conditions promptly.
The programme also featured an exhibition of electronic posters and a physical poster presentation, providing students with a platform to communicate health-related information creatively and encourage greater awareness of cardiovascular health and emergency care.
The event concluded with the distribution of certificates to designated recipients, followed by a closing dance and a vote of thanks acknowledging the contributions of the faculty, administrative team, logistical support staff, audio-visual coordinators, and all those involved in organising the programme. The proceedings came to a close with the National Anthem.
Through these initiatives, SRM Medical College Hospital and Research Centre reaffirmed its commitment to promoting preventive healthcare, strengthening emergency response skills, and encouraging future medical professionals to become confident, responsible, and well-prepared healthcare providers.
