In association with the Commissioner Office and PHC,Maraimalai Nagar, our SRMIST Institution has conducted a free mega COVID-19 vaccination camp at the Basic Engineering Science Lab at our campus today 15.07.2022. A medical teamheaded by Dr.Manasa, Tutor, Community Medicine,consisting of 3 CRRIs and a health inspector from UHTC, 3 staff nurses from our medical college, and 3 nurses from the government department participated in it. The core aim of the camp was to help the staff and students of our university to get first, second and booster doses of vaccination. The camp was inaugurated by Dr.Thirumurugan, Associate Director, Campus Life. It commenced at around 10am and continued till 3pm. 205 people, including our staff and students have gotthe shots, of whom 101 were male and 104 were female. The camp was a huge help to the staff and students who live on our campus.

The fourth wave of COVID-19 has emerged in Tamil Nadu and community transmission has been happening across our state. Chennai and Chengalpattu have been witnessing an increase in new cases. The government of Tamil Nadu has accelerated preventive and curative measures across the state through the health department. The government is closely and cautiously watching COVID trends in both urban and rural areas. People across the state have been instructed to follow the preventive norms and they have been closely monitored by the law enforcement department.
SRMIST has always been in the forefront of coordinating with government departments and civil society organisations to contain the spread of COVID. As a precautionary measure, our university, in collaboration with the Commissioner of Municipality of Maraimalai Nager and local PHC, held a mega vaccination camp today at our university’s Basic Science Lab in the Engineering Block, vaccinating 269 staff, students, and members of the general public. The students exhibited more interest in getting their vaccinations. The vaccination drive was a huge help to everyone who lived on our campus. After taking a short break over the weekend, the COVID-19 free vaccination work started up again today, with 395 (Male:227 and Female: 168) people getting vaccinated. COVID-19 keeps changing its genetic material, coming out in new forms, and causing new infections all over the country, including in our state.
Our campus witnessed staff and students, irrespective of their departments, standing in a long queue for it. The diligent efforts of SRMIST’s management and administrative staff, in collaboration with the Municipal Commissionaire Office of Maraimalai Nagar, will soon bear fruit, ridding our campus of new COVID infection.
The nurses from our hospital, paramedical workers from Urban Health and Training Centre-UHTC, together with the staff of Primary Health Centre, Maraimalai Nager, have tirelessly worked to complete the target of vaccinating the staff and students who approached the vaccination camp site put up in the Basic Engineering Science Lab at our campus.
