The Department of Physiology, SRM Medical College Hospital & Research Centre, organized an Alumni Talk on 18 July 2026 at the New Lecture Hall I, Basic Sciences Annexure Block. The session, titled “Why Physiology Concepts Matter Throughout Life,” was delivered by distinguished alumna Dr. P. Kalyani Praba, Professor, Department of Physiology, Melmaruvathur Adhiparasakthi Institute of Medical Sciences & Research, who completed her MD Physiology (Batch of 2011) from SRMMCHRC.

The programme commenced with a welcome address and introduction of the speaker by Dr. Rachula Daniel, Alumni Coordinator, Department of Physiology. Dr. R. Jayanthi, Dean (Medical), felicitated the speaker and presented a certificate of appreciation. Dr. A. Saravanan, Professor and Head, Department of Physiology, presented a memento, while Dr. K. Thamaraiselvi, Assistant Dean (Alumni) and Professor, Department of Physiology, presented the Alumni Certificate. Mrs. Radha Ravindran, Assistant Director (Alumni), SRMIST, also graced the occasion and presented the SRMIST Alumni memento.

Addressing an audience of 275 participants, including first-year MBBS students, MD Physiology postgraduates, MSc Physiology students, and faculty members, Dr. Kalyani Praba emphasized that physiology forms the foundation and language of clinical medicine. Using case-based discussions on Diabetes Mellitus, she illustrated how core physiological concepts remain relevant throughout a medical professional’s career while also providing valuable insights for academic examinations and clinical practice.

The interactive session encouraged active participation and thoughtful discussions, enabling students to connect theoretical knowledge with real-world clinical scenarios. Participants appreciated the practical approach adopted by the speaker, and the programme concluded with the collection of feedback from attendees, reflecting the session’s positive impact and educational value.
