The University Wellness Program (UWP), in collaboration with the Department of Optometry and the Centre for Yoga at SRM Institute of Science and Technology, organised a Faculty Wellness Workshop titled “Seeing the Light Within: Yogic Practices for Mental Relaxation and Focus” on 7 February 2026.

The workshop was designed to support faculty members in managing occupational stress and enhancing mental clarity through simple, practical yogic techniques. The session emphasised mindful breathing, relaxation practices, and the value of incorporating yoga into daily routines to promote emotional balance and sustained focus.

The program commenced with a welcome address by Dr. T. Sathya, UWP Coordinator. The inaugural address was delivered by Prof. Dr. Jagadeswaran D, Dean, Allied Health Sciences, who highlighted the importance of integrating yoga into academic life to improve productivity and overall well-being.

The resource session was led by Dr. S. Vidhya Shankari, Assistant Professor and Head-in-Charge, Centre for Yoga, CET, SRMIST. She guided participants through breathing exercises, mindfulness-based movements, and relaxation techniques aimed at reducing fatigue and fostering inner awareness. The interactive format encouraged active participation and reflection.

Faculty members from the Department of Optometry attended the workshop and engaged in a feedback and discussion session, sharing their experiences and insights on maintaining work–life balance through yogic practices.

The program concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr. Aiswaryah Radhakrishnan, Professor, Department of Optometry, followed by an informal interaction with the resource person. The workshop served as a meaningful initiative in promoting holistic faculty well-being and reinforcing the role of yoga in nurturing a focused and resilient academic community.
