The Department of Transfusion Medicine and Blood Centre, SRM Medical College Hospital and Research Centre, successfully organised SRM Blood Connect – National CME 2026 on 27 August 2026 with the theme Advancing Transfusion Practices.
The CME brought together 125 delegates from various districts across Tamil Nadu, including postgraduate students, faculty members and healthcare professionals from diverse medical specialties. The programme provided a valuable platform for participants to explore recent developments, evidence-based practices and clinically relevant challenges in transfusion medicine.
The programme commenced with the Tamil Thai Vazhthu, followed by the welcome address by Dr. S. Kingsley, Professor and Head, Department of Transfusion Medicine, who welcomed the dignitaries, faculty members, delegates and students. Dr. Jayanthi inaugurated the CME and delivered an inspiring address highlighting the importance of continuous learning, professional excellence, teamwork and patient-centred approaches in transfusion practices.
The academic programme featured a combination of case-based learning, expert lectures and scientific presentations. Postgraduate students from Anaesthesiology, Critical Care Medicine, General Medicine, Obstetrics & Gynaecology, and Transfusion Medicine presented clinically relevant cases, which were followed by expert discussions and interactive sessions.
Key sessions covered important areas of contemporary transfusion medicine, including therapeutic plasma exchange, goal-directed haemostatic therapy using ROTEM, red cell alloantibodies from womb to transfusion, and challenges in the management of autoimmune haemolytic anaemia (AIHA).
The CME also encouraged academic and research engagement among young professionals. Postgraduate students of Immunohaematology and Blood Transfusion presented oral papers, while M.Sc. students showcased their research through digital poster presentations. The presentations provided participants with opportunities to strengthen their scientific communication and presentation skills while facilitating knowledge exchange.
The scientific presentations were evaluated by a panel of judges, and the winners were felicitated with mementoes and certificates in recognition of their achievements.
The CME concluded successfully at 5:00 PM with the vote of thanks delivered by Dr. Raj Bharath, Professor, Department of Transfusion Medicine and Blood Centre.
