The three-day workshop IDEA Health was inaugurated by the Division of Medical Research at SRM Institute of Science and Technology, marking a focused step toward strengthening research capacity in the health sciences on 25th February 2026.

Designed as an intensive academic platform, the workshop brings together faculty members, researchers, and scholars for structured sessions on research design, microdata analysis, qualitative methodologies, and translational public health approaches. The objective is clear: equip participants with practical tools to generate evidence that is methodologically sound and directly relevant to policy and practice.

The inaugural session was graced by Dr. J. S. Kumar, Associate Dean (PG Academics), SRM Medical College Hospital and Research Centre; Dr. Rajiv Janardhanan, Dean – Research (MHS), SRMMCHRC; and Dr. Alex Joseph, Professor, SRM School of Public Health. Their presence underscored the institution’s strong academic backing for interdisciplinary and high-quality research.

The workshop also features distinguished external experts, including Dr. Soumitra Ghosh, Associate Professor at the Centre for Health Policy, Planning and Management, School of Health Systems Studies, Tata Institute of Social Sciences, and Dr. Snigdha Banerjee, Qualitative Research Associate at Population Council Consulting Pvt. Ltd.. Their sessions are expected to offer in-depth perspectives on policy-relevant data analysis, health systems research, and qualitative inquiry in public health contexts.

Over the next three days, IDEA Health will facilitate interactive discussions, hands-on analytical exercises, and collaborative learning aimed at bridging the gap between academic research and real-world health challenges. By integrating quantitative rigor with qualitative depth, the programme seeks to nurture researchers capable of producing impactful, context-sensitive evidence.

IDEA Health reflects the continued commitment of the Division of Medical Research at SRMMCHRC to advancing rigorous, collaborative, and socially responsive medical research, reinforcing SRM’s broader vision of academic excellence and public health leadership.
