The Department of Pathology, SRM Medical College Hospital & Research Centre, organized an Alumni Talk on 24 July 2026 at the Pathology Demo Hall 1, bringing together faculty members, postgraduate students, and alumni for an insightful academic session.
The event featured Dr. Vinodhini Asokan, MD (Pathology), Assistant Professor, Department of Pathology, Vels Medical College & Hospital, and an alumnus of the 2018 batch of SRM Medical College Hospital & Research Centre. She delivered a lecture on Unlocking Gliomas: WHO Classification, Molecular Markers and Future Directions.
The programme commenced with a welcome address by Dr. Anitha R., Assistant Professor, Department of Pathology and Organizing Secretary. Prof. Dr. Muthu S., Professor and Head, Department of Pathology, emphasized the significance of alumni engagement in fostering academic excellence and continuous learning. The event was also graced by the presence of Ms. Radha Ravindran, Assistant Director, Alumni Affairs.
During the session, Dr. Vinodhini presented the latest WHO classification of gliomas and highlighted the integration of molecular diagnostics into neuropathology. She explained the clinical relevance of important molecular markers such as IDH mutation, 1p/19q codeletion, ATRX, TP53, TERT promoter mutation, MGMT promoter methylation, and CDKN2A/B deletion in diagnosis, prognosis, and personalized treatment strategies.
The lecture concluded with an engaging interactive discussion and question-and-answer session, where faculty members and postgraduate students actively participated. The programme strengthened academic collaboration between alumni and the institution while providing participants with valuable insights into emerging developments in molecular pathology and precision medicine.
