SRM Institute of Science and Technology (SRMIST) welcomed a new cohort of 250 MBBS and 100 BDS students at the Induction Ceremony for Freshers 2026, held at the Dr. T. P. Ganesan Auditorium, Kattankulathur. The ceremony marked the beginning of the students’ academic and professional journey in healthcare, with emphasis on academic excellence, ethical practice, compassion and service to society.

The ceremony was attended by the leadership of SRMIST, faculty members, students and parents. Prof. V. B. Narayana Murthy, Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeon, Kauvery Hospital, Alwarpet, Chennai, was the Chief Guest.

Addressing the newly inducted students, Prof. (Dr.) Jayanthi R, Dean, SRM Medical College Hospital & Research Centre, said, “SRM Medical College and Hospital is an ecosystem that takes pride in advancing academic excellence, relentlessly pursuing research and innovation, providing 360-degree mentorship, and nurturing you throughout your four-and-a-half years of study.”

Speaking on the opportunities available to dental students, Dr. N. Vivek, Dean, SRM Kattankulathur Dental College and Hospital, said, “SRM Kattankulathur Dental College and Hospital offers students a strong foundation in dental education, supported by the expertise and resources of our SRM Medical College Hospital and Research Centre. With extensive clinical exposure, specialised dental training and opportunities to engage in community outreach, we aim to nurture competent and compassionate dental professionals. Service to society remains the main motto of our institution, and we are proud to prepare our students to contribute meaningfully to the health and well-being of the communities they serve.”

Delivering the Chief Guest Address, Prof. V. B. Narayana Murthy highlighted the values that should guide students throughout their careers. He said, “The white coat is an immense honour, but with that responsibility and pride comes humility and honesty. You may become a doctor, but at the end of the day, you have to be very humble. While dealing with patients, you have to be very mindful.”

The ceremony also featured a Special Address by Prof. C. Muthamizhchelvan, Vice Chancellor, SRMIST, and a welcome address by Dr. T. Mythili, Additional Registrar, MSL, SRMIST.

A significant part of the ceremony was the administration of the Hippocratic Oath, led by Prof. (Dr.) Jayanthi R. The oath symbolised the students’ commitment to the principles, values and responsibilities of the healthcare profession.

The induction ceremony formally welcomed the new students into the SRMIST community and set the tone for their academic journey, encouraging them to pursue knowledge, uphold ethical values and develop a strong commitment to patient care and service to society.
